The Gay Masters is an annual LGBTQ+ golf tournament held on the first Saturday of June at Butler Pitch & Putt, proudly kicking off Pride Month with a day of competition, camaraderie, and celebration on the green—followed by 19th Hole Pool Party to keep the festivities going.
- 2019 – The Inaugural Event
- Launched at Butler Pitch & Putt with a competitive division, awarding the green jacket to the champion.
- Played alongside the public, with about 8 groups participating.
- 2020 – No Tournament- COVID
- 2021 – Return to the Green
- Still mixed in with the public, but with an increasing number of participants.
- 2022 – Major Expansion
- Introduced a recreational team scramble format for more inclusive play.
- Secured a full venue rental for the first time, allowing a private event experience.
- Added a Beginner’s Clinic led by the head pro at Butler Pitch & Putt, providing new golfers with an opportunity to learn and feel comfortable on the course.
- 2023 – Growing the Event
- Introduced title and hole sponsorships to help cover the venue rental cost.
- Continued the full venue rental, ensuring an exclusive tournament atmosphere.
- Strengthened the community aspect by engaging more local sponsors.
- 2024 – Refining the Experience
- Opted for a party area buyout instead of a full venue rental, balancing cost and experience.
- Expanded the social side of the event, officially adding the 19th Hole Pool Party as the post-tournament celebration.
- Introduced Best Dressed Award to honor the most stylish participants.
- Created the Co-Ed Team Award to encourage diverse team participation.
